Profile #17 - Sara Nicholson

In March of 2023, Sara's husband died just six weeks after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. In summer of 2023, Sara and her two youngest children (age 8 and 14 at the time) attended their first family group.

"When my husband died, I remember telling my mom that he was my safe place. I didn't know how I would ever feel that unconditional acceptance, support, and peace again. A few months ago, I realized Mourning Hope has become my new safe place."

Sara and her family continue to participate in different events since that first experience at Mourning Hope, and Sara regularly meets with a young widows group formed by other amazing families that she met through groups. Sara is eager to suggest that others sign up for a family group or adult group.

"You may just find, like my family did, that Mourning Hope is exactly what you didn't even know you needed."

As much as we pay homage to the past three decades of our history, we are honored to highlight stories like Sara's that are part of our present and future.
